Friday Faves xiv

Well hello!

Raise your hand if this whole Friday thing has you sayin’ HOLLA! My mom is coming to spend the afternoon with me on Sunday which is the perfect motivation to study hard in the meantime so that I can soak up every minute of her company. Sometimes the anticipation of a little reward is all I need to get my butt in gear and my mama certainly fits that bill!

It feels like it’s been a while since a good old-fashioned Friday Faves popped up around these parts and I can’t think of many ways I would prefer to kick off my Friday than a nice big list of happy things. So away we go!

1. The Beautiful Response to my Last Post

You guys, the response to my post on Wednesday made any hesitation I had about posting it worth it and THEN some. All day your comments (both online and in real life) reminded me of how much we have in common, despite our differences. My mom read them and sent me this text and I couldn’t agree more.

2. Doggie Sweaters

Speaking of my mom’s texts – she sent me this picture of Mojo in her new get-up to keep warm after being shaved yesterday. Does she not look like the cutest old grandma dog?! I can’t stop laughing.

3. Vegan Tofu Lasagna

I made this vegan tofu lasagna from Daily Garnish a couple weeks ago and it is such a winner! I have a whole bunch of portions in the freezer and I’m pretty stoked about it.

4.  Elf Yourself

If you’re in need of some comedic relief at any point this month, take a second and make an Elf Yourself video of you and your people. This is one I made of my family that just cracks me up so much and you can make your own here.

Bloggers’ gift idea posts at this time of year always leave me with a few ideas that would never have crossed my mind.

Kimberlee from In everything has done a few really creative ones including Gifts for the Spa Lover, Gifts for Gold Lovers and Gifts to Keep Cozy.

And Julie from Peanut Butter Fingers is doing her wonderful annual compilation and kicked it off with Fitness Finds. I’ll be keeping an eye out for a bunch of others that I’m sure are on their way!

6. This Year’s Funniest Animal Photographs

Some of these pictures are SO CUTE (as are the captions!)

7. Eleven of the Best Food Photography Props Post by Georgia at In It 4 the Long Run

If you enjoy taking food pictures, this post offers some really simple and practical tips to give your photos a bit of flair.

8. My Favourite Blog Cheerleader

And lastly, I have to make mention of my sweet sweet dad who shares all of my posts on Facebook and is always asking me how the blog is going. His support for my “baby” makes me so excited to see him with actual grandkids!! How I wish this weekend would include some beer-drinking at a hockey game or a great workout together. But be seeing you before long, poppa!

Well that’s it for me, my friends.

I am giving you a mission to find a couple of little ways to treat yourself today!

I hope your weekend is FAB.

  1. Ahhh everything about this made me feel warm. YAY to mama visits. Get that studying done so you ladies can just have fun, now! And your Dad sounds very special (all dads are :) ). This weekend I shall make lasagna… I see recipes popping up everywhere and my cravings are getting wild…. and elf myself while its cooking. Have a lovely time!!

  2. Your Friday Favourites posts always make me smile. I’ve been eyeing that tofu lasagna recipe too. I know minimalist baker posted something recently using sweet potatoes and I can’t wait to try either one of these when I get a food processor. I’ve never had nutritional yeast before, though, so I’m pretty intimidated! Aside from making vegan “cheese”, what can you do with nutritional yeast?
You are so lucky that Mom gets to come visit you. :) I have (22-4 = …) 18 more days until I get to leave gloomy old Waterloo. :P How is the weather in Montreal? And oh my goodness, Elf Yourself is hilarious. It cracked me up sooooo much last year!
I can’t wait for your next post :) Recipe?

    • Mmm sweet potato lasagna?! Sounds amazing. I typically just keep nutritional yeast around for when recipes call for it (which is actually quite often… especially in pasta sauces) but my roommate sprinkles it on many of her meals, almost as if it’s parm!
Ohhh man getting so close!! It must be hard to concentrate on studying when you’re so excited :) The weather is still so mild here (just above 0) but not overly sunny lately.
I’m actually not 100% sure what my next post will be. I don’t consider myself a particularly organized blogger ;) haha

      • Oh nice! Is the a particular brand you prefer? I haven’t seen it in grocery stores here in Waterloo but I’m sure I’ll find it at Whole Foods when I go back to Bc.
Woooo I know! I feel so done because classes are over – are yours done yet? My last exam is going to be on the 21st and I can’t wait to be home after that! When will you be going back to Ottawa?
Oh good! I am glad the weather is not too extreme yet. The weather totally determines my mood and I can imagine how you would feel when it’s cold, gloomy, and snowy out!
What? You ARE an organized blogger! Trust me :) I love how you schedule your posts for every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It always gives me something to look forward to. I just love reading your blog so much.

      • Oh, that’s too bad. Is there no good health food store in Waterloo? I haven’t noticed any difference at all amongst brands and I usually get it in bulk when I can!
I go until the 22nd. We both finish so late! But I’ll probably head to Ottawa on the 17th and just drive back to write my last one :)
I totally feel you on being affected by the weather. I’m so excited for snow though!!
Awww you’re so sweet for noticing my little schedule and your words mean the WORLD to me :) xo
