Friday Faves xiii + What Are Your Favourite Posts?

Why hello friends! Before I get to a few things I’ve been loving lately, I have a quick question for you!

The blog turned 6 months this week (sentimental tear) which got me reflecting a bit about the direction I see it heading. First and foremost, I am enjoying the experience now more than ever and finding it gratifying in a way I couldn’t have expected (AKA, I’m not going anywhere).

What I would absolutely love to is to get a feel for what YOU like most and least about the blog. While I would never veer from writing in such a way that feels like ME about topics that I’m passionate about, that can take many forms. So if you have any feedback you would like to share (whoever you are!) –  I would be so so happy to hear it.

Anything you’d like to see more of? less of?
You can leave a comment or e-mail me at {jacklynvilleneuve@gmail.com} <3

1. Heritage O’s

It occurred to me as I downed my millionth bowl of Heritage O’s the other night that I have never loved on these little guys on the blog. Now I don’t want to get you thinking that they taste like Fruit Loops because they’re not overly sweet and I have a feeling that people used to more sugary cereals would think they taste a bit like dog food (except why have you tasted dog food?) BUT, I think they are delicious and they are crazy crunchy in a way that really satisfies that munchy craving that is no stranger to me in the evenings.

2. The Most Beautiful Fall

The other day a friend pointed out how quick people tend to complain about bad weather in contrast to how rarely we vocalize our appreciation when it’s good. So guilty! We truly had an exceptionally wonderful fall around these parts and whatever happens this winter, we have a gorgeous fall to be thankful for.

3. Sephora Eyebrow Filler

I am the furthest thing from a make-up connoisseur but this product is one of my favourites. My eyebrows are a bit of a hot mess and this powder lets me leave the house with them looking sort of, a little bit, somewhat symmetrical. Plus it lasts forever! I use it everyday and am not even close to finishing the one I got for Christmas.

4. Grace Hopper Quotation

I came across this little graphic the other day and it got me thinking about the aspects of my life that are the way they are more because of habit than intention.

5. Justin Trudeau’s Book

I had no idea that Justin Trudeau published a memoir in 2014 until it got chosen as this month’s book club pick. I’m only about a quarter of the way in but am learning a lot about his upbringing and background that I didn’t know. Highly recommended. (P.s. To any international readers who have no idea what I’m talking about, Justin Trudeau is the new Canadian Prime Minister).

And lastly, accurate or accurate?

Looking forward to hearing from you and hope you have a GREAT weekend!

  1. Yay for Friday Faves! It’s always great to see what other bloggers are loving. :)
I would love to see recipe idea posts! I remember one post you did a while back showed lots of lunches that you bring to school, and that gave me lots of ideas when packing my own midday meal. Maybe you could do one showing us some of your regular breakfasts and dinners. Recipes aren’t even necessary – you could just tell us about the combination you had (eg. quinoa tossed with roasted veggies and fried egg on top).
Do you have desserts sometimes? I’m a huge dessert person and want to see some of the sweets you enjoy! I’m thinking of doing a “Top 10 Things I Eat Every Day” post, and I would love to see one of those from you too. How about oatmeal combination ideas?! :D

PS: Can’t believe your blog is only 6m old. It’s a baby!

  2. When reading blogs, I love a glimpse/life in the day for you at school, things you’re learning (because nutrition related, duh!), your thoughts and words of wisdom and life updates. Recipes too because your food looks so yummy. I like learning about the blogger and not just always seeing food, and I think you do a great job of letting our personality shine through!

  3. Hi Jacklyn :) I’ve been following your blog forever now, I really love all the ideas and different perspectives you provide! As an individual striving towards constant improvement in the health and fitness category of la vie, I really appreciate the cool facts you present and myths that you break, and interesting bits about food that I likely never would have known otherwise!

You have enlightened me to refrigerated oatmeal… which I have 3-4 mornings a week and they are like my super-healthy-morning treats! You’ve also given me other recipe ideas which have been helpful since I’ve been trying to add variety in a way that fits my macros. So I really love that!

I know this is a fitness/health/nutrition oriented blog, but it would be cool to see other aspects of your life… how you organize things, how you study, how you plan your meals and workouts and not just that you do them. I’m always looking for more efficient ways to do things, and since we’re both students (and you and I went to school together for like 12 years :p) I figure you would have some pretty neat tips and tricks for keeping on top of a busy schedule!

But something that I have curious about (which you would probably know or be able to figure out) is what kind of diet or supplement additions an athlete can incorporate into their diets to combat muscle soreness and quicker recovery? I know the basic of the supplements you can take but I don’t always like drinking powders and taking pills when I could use real foods. Do you have any ideas?

Keep doing your thing, Jacklyn, you are very very good at it :) best of luck for the future and I’ll keep an eye out for your future posts!

    • Myra!!! Thanks so much for your comment :) Love the idea for more “lifestyle” type of posts – I know I really like seeing those on other blogs. And I also think the recovery question is a great one – I am definitely putting that on my list of topics to post about!
Hope you’re doing really well and thanks so much for the encouraging words. Means a lot :)

  4. I like your blog just the way it is and I especially like the humanness that you bring to it. Besides food, I like hearing about your life and your feelings and parts about your boyfriend. I like how you take time to write to each of us personally….I look forward to reading all that you write. Thank you so much Jacklyn for what you give me personally; I always leave smiling after being on your blog.

Wishing both of you a wonderful weekend!

  5. I adore your blog! It’s fun reading about the day-to-day life of someone who’s on the same journey as me (just in another part of the world).
I really like the quote you shared. My husbands talks a lot about how he gets tired of hearing that at his job. I like the Einstein quote- “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

  6. Hey Jacklyn. Congrats on 6 months!! I think your blog is so lovely. It is simple and clear and you have a spunky and fun way of writing that let’s us feel like you are being the real you. I like that you do not focus on only one topic, but rather have a range of passions and interests to speak on (and that you do so intelligently). I also love that your posts are never novels… sometimes shorter and simpler is best. Anyway, this is all just to say, my vote is just continue doing what you’re doing. I’m glad to hear you are continuing to enjoy it so much!

Quesiton – how did you get the little icon to appear beside your url address?

  7. I must agree with our weather this fall, it is great! I absolutely love your blog, perhaps the only thing I could add is that I would love to see more recipes, those are some of my favorite posts! I do love your style of writing though, and your photography draws me in every single time. Keep up the great work, Jacklyn! :)
