Friday Faves vi

1. The man who won the Francophone Scrabble Championship… without knowing french

As if it wasn’t impressive enough that New-Zealand native Nigel Richards was already the top ENGLISH Scrabble player, he reportedly memorized the French Scrabble Dictionary and won the Francophone Championship last month. Did I already mention that he doesn’t speak french?! Some.people’s.brains. You can read more here!

2. Bouldering

I feel like I had a bit of a skewed perception of bouldering until fairly recently; I never thought of it as something that just anyone could go do on a random night without experience/equipment/a really buff bod/general coolness. But I’ve been a couple times recently and it’s such a fun (and cheap) way to hang out with friends and be active. I so encourage you to see if there’s a climbing gym near you… it’s not as intimidating as it seems, I promise!

3. This Greek Pasta Recipe

This recipe has so so much flavour and I’ve been packing it for lunch like there’s no tomorrow. I use brown rice pasta and find that the texture stays en pointe for days (which I do not always find to be the case for gluten-free pastas). Just beware that it makes a HUGE portion, which is great if you have a brother with the stomach of a mammoth (not talking about mine or anything) but perhaps less great if you’re cooking it just for yourself.

4. The new Rainbow Mural in Las Palmitas, Mexico

This 14-month project involved 452 families in what is a very dangerous neighbourhood in Mexico. The goal was to give the community a sense of unity and pride for the city and thus far they’re apparently witnessing just that. It can be hard to hear the news without feeling completely discouraged about the state of the universe but then stories like this come along and lift the spirits right back up. Here are more details.

5. Having My Dad as a Running Buddy

I can’t begin to count the number of runs I would never have taken if not for my dad’s gentle push over the years. And of course I always finish them feeling like a million bucks and have to admit that he told me so (aren’t parents annoying when they’re right like that?). Thanks for keeping me on my game, poppa <3 We just signed up for the Army Run 5k in late September and I had forgotten how nice it is to have a race to train towards!

Hope you have the most wonderful weekend! What are you most looking forward to?
